Kevin Ash, President/Owner kevinA@blueskyland.com
Blue Sky Landscape Services, Inc. started as the American dream. I have always had an interest in horticulture and landscaping. After some schooling in a landscape design and construction course I began work with local landscape companies. It took about 4 years to realize that I was a great worker but not a great employee. I wanted to do things my way. So in 1982 with a Toyota pick up, a Sears lawn mower and $300, Blue Sky Landscape Services, Inc. was created. My job description has changed over the years and currently I find myself motivating and training all levels of the business and providing a small amount of levity. |
Scott Swayze, General Manager/Partner ScottS@blueskyland.com
In May of 1983, Scott was recruited to work as a laborer by the then Vice President of Blue Sky. He worked his way up the ranks and was able to take on the role of General Manager in 1995. Before coming to Blue Sky, Scott worked for some time at Storino’s Farm, where he was also a general laborer. When asked about his strengths in the workplace, Scott will tell you that he is skilled at managing customer and employee issues, as well as delegation. Aside from dedicating long hours to his job, Scott enjoys the occasional fishing, clamming and camping trips with his family and friends. He is also an avid NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr. |

Ann Bowling, Treasurer/Partner AnnB@blueskyland.com
Started at Blue Sky Landscape in 1982 as Kevin and his then business partner, Danny Bowling were starting the business out of Danny and Ann’s garage. At the time, Ann was at home with her newborn son, and managed to let Kevin put her to work. She helped by paying bills, ordering and picking up plants. Ann went to school at WSU and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture in 1976. Before accepting her new role with Blue Sky, she worked at Star Nursery & Landscape in Seattle for several years. If you ask Ann what her strengths at work are, she will tell you that it is her adaptability and knowledge of the whole system, both in the field and in the office. Something you may not know about her is that she once hiked 120 mi. around Mt. Rainier with her then fiancé, Danny in 1977. Like the rest of us she’s also a lover of the outdoors (skiing, walking, hiking), in addition to her love of reading and word/number puzzles. |
Chris Bennis, Landscape Architect/Partner ChrisB@blueskyland.com
Came to Blue Sky after his wife met Kevin while she worked at Edgewood Flower Farm in February of 1999. Blue Sky was doing work for the owners at the time, & Kevin mentioned they were looking for an estimator. The rest is history. Chris came to us with a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture from Montana State University (Class of 1997). Just before coming to Blue Sky, he worked for Specialized Landscape for nearly 2 years. When asked about his strongest skill, Chris replies that he is good at working with the budget on a change order. "On a personal note, Chris enjoys spending his free time outdoors while boating, camping, hiking, and snow skiing." |

Jeanette Sturtz, Financial Controller JeanetteS@blueskyland.com
Started in June of 2007 after hearing of the position from Scott’s wife and her good friend, Lynell. She decided that it sounded like a great new adventure and took the job. Jeanette’s background includes an AA in Accounting, as well as 21 years at HR Block as an accountant. When asked what her strongest skill at work might be, she replies that it is multitasking, since she wears so many hats here at Blue Sky. Something you may not know about Jeanette is that she was born in England. She also happens to be very crafty (sewing, mosaics, cross words). "When I asked her.... if there was anything else she would like us to ad to her bio, she said, “I love working here, it’s like family!” |
Kelly McKenna, Landscape Maintenance Estimator KellyM@blueskyland.com
Started in March of 1993 as a laborer in the maintenance division. He came here to Blue Sky because he was looking for a change in his career path (from designer suits to jeans and rain gear), as well as his love for the outdoors. After dealing with a death in the family, he took a second look at his life & decided it was time to better himself. He took time off from work to be with his family; and rather than return to work, he opened a Day Care business with his wife. This also had stemmed from not being able to find adequate care in the neighborhood for their daughter. He and his wife saw an opportunity to help the community as well as give their children the comfort of being able to have mom at home. Ann and Danny Bowling (VP and Treasurer) were one of their clients back in the day. After the business was up and going steady, Kelly approached Ann about a job at Blue Sky. Who would have thought he'd still be here after 16 yrs? Before working with Blue Sky, Kelly had a variety of positions throughout the food industry. Most recently, he was employed as a District Manager for the Dairy Queen Corp. for roughly 13 years where he received several awards, including recognition of being a valued asset to the food industry in several magazines for high levels of facility cleanliness and customer service. Aside from his career, Kelly is an extremely family oriented person. He is still married to his childhood sweetheart that he met at the age of 15. He enjoys spending time working in his own yard, bowling, roller-skating, hiking and enjoying life with family and friends. |
